Course Description
MEDS 611 is the first course in the pre-clerkship anatomy and physiology sequence. Students integrate cadaver-based gross anatomy, histology, and organ-system physiology, with an emphasis on structures and mechanisms most relevant to clinical reasoning. The course runs in parallel with weekly small-group clinical correlation cases.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to: identify major anatomical structures of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems by dissection and imaging; explain the physiologic mechanisms underlying muscle contraction, the cardiac cycle, and gas exchange; correlate structural anatomy with common clinical presentations; and demonstrate safe, professional, and respectful conduct in the anatomy lab.

Attendance & Professionalism
Cadaver lab attendance is mandatory. Students must follow the lab dress code and treat donor bodies with the professionalism expected of a physician. Two unexcused lab absences may result in referral to the professionalism committee.
